"Temptations"

Rev. Kevin Murphy

Preparation Scriptures:
Genesis 2: 15-17, 3: 1-7, Psalm 32, and Matthew 4: 1-11

This sermon makes us aware that Temptation is not so much an outside influence personified by the Devil, but rather an internal influence or conscience ... our recognition of right and wrong. Kevin identifies the central theme of most temptation as grasping for power, perhaps to be more like god.  We may know right from wrong but are sometimes tempted to rationalize our use of an unfair advantage. Our rewards may be respect from our peers and honor to our leaders, while our ultimate objective should be peace within our soul and a recognition of the almighty power of our Lord.

These truths effect us as individuals as well as our society of Nations. As we grasp the responsible use of power we may begin to consider such issues as the use of corn for fuel while many people of the world go hungry.
