Our Youth are looking forward to an exciting week of Mission Work at an Indian Reservation!

This yearly MAP trip is scheduled for June 27th -July 4th in Tempe, Arizona to work at the Gila River Indian Reservation.

The Gila River Indian Community, home of The River People, is nestled beneath a beautiful blue desert sky, amid breath-taking sunrises and warm golden sunsets. This lush desert environment with its abundant wildlife of wild horses, cottontail rabbits, quail, road runners, and morning dove, makes living here very precious.

The Sonoran Desert has been home to two distinct tribes - the Akimel O'odham (Pima), and Pee-Posh (Maricopa) people since time in memorial. The natural elements of their environment has been embraced by incorporating them into their artwork, pottery, baskets and jewelry. New buildings also feature symbolic designs, natural materials and plants which reflect their affection for the land.

Once arriving within its 600 square mile boundary, Phoenix seems light years away, yet it's only 11 miles to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and 17 miles from downtown Phoenix.

Sixteen youth will be making the trip. Five adult chaperones will be attending to help, while assisting in keeping things organized. Their project will be doing repair work and light construction, mending benches and general sprucing of the interior on the 100 year old VaiKi Presbyterian Church. The church has about 30 members (all Native Ameriacans who live on the reservation). These restorations are greatly appreciated as VaiKi prepares to hosts an annual revival attended by 400-500 people. Please pray for our group as they generously serve others.
